In this painting style, normally natural colors and glues are used. The artists make use of pigments from vegetable, fruits, and leaves, etc. purified and blended in definite proportions to add colors to the drawings. In Kerala traditional Mural art, the coloring is done based on a principle called ‘Panchavarna’, in which the basic 5 primary colors; red, white, yellow, green and black will do the core contribution. These naturally extracted colors are mixed in wooden bowls with coconut water or neem tree excludes as a base. This helps to keep the colors fresh and stable with long durability without any fading or damage. Brushes prepared with natural elements are used to apply the pigments in dots and lines.
